Community Gardens in New York City

On Saturday, April 9th, the 2016 edition of the “Gardens are community, community spaces are in jeopardy” bike ride will begin from the Elizabeth Street Garden in lower Manhattan and visit four additional gardens that are threatened with closure in a number of ways. The bike ride begins at 1 pm at Elizabeth Street Gardens and visits another garden in Manhattan and then three in Brooklyn.  Details are here.  It’s a testament that these community spaces, created and maintained by volunteers, survive, thanks to assistance from organizations like 596 Acres.

Are you interested in adopting a space and creating a garden or a park in New York City?  596 Acres, together with a variety of volunteers, has put together an amazing website, Living Lots NYC that allows you to search for and get information on possible and current spaces near you, as well as contact interested parties and other organizers to get engaged.
